It never fails, whenever I plan something that has to do with Tim, he always messes it up! I had a surprise party planned for him Wednesday night at 7:00. He always, and I mean always meets with the missionaries at 6:30. Well, he had a bad day at work and decided that if the missionaries wanted to have their meeting with him, they could just come to the house. We had to tell many "partial truths" that night to finally get him there. About 25-30 friends and family showed up to give him a roast, while he sat in a wheel chair with his "Over The Hill 50" cap on, holding his cane with a horn, rear view mirror and instructions in case he was lost.
Many there had some good stuff on him. Philip told of times working in the oil field when the pipes broke and Tim had oil all over him and all he could see of him were the whites of his eyes. Shirley got him the best when she told how Ernestine used to make herself a new dress and with the left over material, she would make Tim a new pair of shorts. She even had pictures of them together in their new "clothes". But she topped it off with playing a tape of him singing when he was about 12 years old, "Wild Thing" and "Good Vibrations".
Dorthy Jean wouldn't be out done, so she made him his own special "Sponge Cake". It was so pretty. Of course he tried to cut it and couldn't.
And no activity would be complete until President Kelly put a group together to play and guitar and sing to everyone.
Everyone brought Tim at least one ink pen, because he is always losing his. He received well over 50 pens. By the time the night was over, he was feeling much better about life.
